Summary:

Works under the guidance of the Process Improvement Manager with the goal of promoting and supporting process improvement initiatives and Lean Thinking throughout Memorial Healthcare System (MHS). Drives continuous process improvement cultural change through process improvement initiatives throughout the organization. Solves process related problems by empowering those that do the work to systematically identify, then eliminate wasteful and unnecessary process steps in order to improve processes that bring about continuous and sustainable improvement. Responsibilities:

Interactions to include:
engage and consult with department leadership to identify appropriate key projects or process improvement projects that will provide optimal benefit to our employees, patients, families and system partners. Interact with leaders and staff to enable them to effectively participate in improvement initiatives.
Support to include:
quantify opportunities that can result in financial, operational and clinical performance gains for the organization.
Support to include:
extend project support to other members of the Process Improvement team when needed.
Perform any other duties as assigned.
Leadership expectations:
identify and leverage opportunities to share project results, methods, and best practices within MHS and outside of the organization.
Primary duties to include:
perform intermediate data and process analysis on qualitative and quantitative clinical or operational information, and data from various sources. Ensure appropriate metrics/controls are in place to monitor results, to foster continuous improvement by creating standard work to ensure consistency in work and results, and helping devise a control plan to bring about sustainable improvements.
Leadership expectations:
teach process improvement methodologies throughout the organization. Contribute to the development and delivery of education and training courses on lean principles and skills. Teach in person, and/or virtually, the MHS Lean Yellow Belt Training Course, as well as other classes and workshops to advance Lean Thinking and the appropriate use of process improvement tools, in order advance a culture of Lean that will sustain continuous improvement initiatives.
Primary duties to include:
select appropriate methods for analysis and utilize expertise in process improvement methods and tools to appropriately identify the correct design and approach for initiatives.
Leadership expectations:
facilitate interdisciplinary team projects for approved process improvement initiatives by providing the team participants with the needed guidance and technical proficiency to allow the team to obtain positive results in the form of improved processes that can be sustained.
Primary duties to include:
review and prioritize improvement recommendations within the B&E Matrix, assist in selecting and setting up appropriate Poka-yoke mechanisms for mistake proofing in the workplace, Kanban to prevent inventory shortfalls or overstocking, 5S the workplace to systematize and standardize the work environment, and create Visual Management tools as well as Communication Boards.
Leadership expectations:
lead, facilitate, consult and engage teams, work groups, projects, and activities of limited complexity, designed to improve processes and related operational performance; seek out and solicit opportunities that will bring about clinical and non-clinical standardization throughout the system.
Primary duties to include:
draw up Spaghetti Maps to illustrate steps taken to perform work tasks, and identify areas of opportunity, design a SIPOC, lead/undertake Swimlane/Process Mapping that will distinguish between Value and Non-Value, Data Collection/Data Analysis, work sampling, and prepare Root Cause analysis (Fishbone Diagram).
Deliverables to include:
develop, organize, and summarize materials for reports and presentations including project data, analyses, and updates to key stakeholders and leadership. Track, monitor and report project progression using standardized tools utilized by the Process Improvement department; Present information in a clear, concise manner with complete and accurate data, tailored to the recipient's comprehension level.
Primary duties to include:
draft/write a Project Charter, interview stakeholders and others to obtain Voice of the Employee/Customer/Process, undertake observations, shadowing and time studies at the Gemba to see what has been described by VOC.
Interactions to include:
seek out opportunities to involve MHS Green Belts in process improvement project work and enable them to begin to employ the skills that they learned during their Green Belt training.
Interactions to include:
report regularly to stakeholders and executive sponsors about team progress toward goal achievement and critical factors to success, as well as any obstacles. Seek out opportunities to build relationships with leaders, peers and staff to empower them to effectively participate in improvement initiatives and overcome any peer resistance to desired solutions. Engage executive leadership and stakeholders, to obtain their buy in and support, to ensure that projects commence, advance and succeed.
