This entry level clerical position reports to the Accounting Manager and performs routine clerical work in the preparation, processing and maintenance of accounting data and records Position Duties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs general bookkeeping/accounting work, which may include but is not limited to preparing weekly and monthly journal entries, maintaining petty cash funds, balancing monies and accounts, preparing bank deposits and related reconciliations, and receiving, receipting and posting various monies.
May print and/or manually prepare checks and prepare register reports.
Prepares and/or processes various documents, which may include but are not limited to purchase requisitions and orders, billing invoices, accounts payable and payroll documents, disbursement statements, check requests, quote sheets, vendor applications, fixed asset forms, etc.
Prepares computer spreadsheets as required.
Performs general clerical duties as required, including but not limited to typing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering computer data, processing daily mail, answering the telephone, etc.
Receives and responds to inquiries regarding financial / purchasing matters from City employees, vendors, banking institutions, etc.
Interacts and communicates with the immediate supervisor, co-workers and other City employees, vendors, and the general public.
Operates a computer, printer, calculator, typewriter, fax machine, copier, telephone, decollator, buster, check signer, cash register, postage machine, etc.
Performs additional related duties as required and/or assigned.

City of Miramar employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Position Requirements/Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent; one to two years of experience in technical accounting/bookkeeping, with strong data entry skills, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Vacation Permanent full-time employees earn up to ten days of vacation during their first year of employment.

Health Plan The City currently provides medical coverage through Aetna.
The City pays the health insurance premium for the employee and 50% of the premium for dependents.
Permanent full-time employees have the option of electing coverage from three plans:
Health Network Only Plan (HMO), High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with HSA and Open Access Managed Choice Plan (POS).
Permanent part-time employees have the option of electing coverage from two plans:
Health Network Only Plan (HMO) and the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) The City also offers Dental coverage through Delta Dental.
Pension (Defined Benefit Plan) Permanent full-time employees are automatically enrolled in one of the City sponsored pension plans, which are funded by mandatory City and employee contributions.
The Plan provides a guaranteed income, based on years of service, to its members upon retirement.
457(b) Plan (Deferred Compensation Plan) Employees can elect to participate in this Plan, which enables the employee the option of deferring compensation on a pretax basis, not to exceed the applicable limits established by the IRC.
